Update on 27th Annual General Meeting 14 March 2021

19 Mar 2021

Dear Church,

Greetings in the name of Jesus!

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 14 March this year via Zoom—a first for CHC. Unlike previous years, we were unable to extend the invitation to our Ordinary and Ministry Members due to the limitations of the virtual platform.

Our review of the year 2020 during the AGM showed that, despite the many changes and challenges presented to our church family because of the pandemic, we continue to see God’s hand evidently at work among us. We are full of gratitude toward God for all that He has done for us as we faced this unprecedented year together. Here are some of the highlights from the AGM:

1. Financial Update for FY2020
Since the start of COVID-19, some in our congregation have experienced loss of jobs, a drop in household income and uncertainty in their businesses and careers. However, our members continued to trust the Lord and remained faithful in giving to His house despite such a difficult year. We are so thankful for your faithfulness, and we also appreciate our leaders and staff for being extremely prudent in their planning and expenditure. Our collective efforts have ensured that, in the midst of a challenging period, our church is still maintaining a healthy financial position.

The Financial Statements for FY2019 and the 2019/2020 Annual Reports have been posted on our website for your viewing. You can find them here.

2. Board Renewal
In accordance to Commissioner of Charities’ (COC) guideline on establishing term limits for the members of a Board to ensure steady renewal, we have 2 Board members completing their service of a full decade and will not seek re-election. We also have 1 member who has resigned for personal reasons. We want to thank Lee Kiam Hiong, Francis Seow-Choen and Ee Boon Kiat for their years of service on the CHC Board. Their presence on the Board has brought great stability, sound governance and constructive conversation to the management of our church. The Executive Members of the church have voted in Lillian Cher, Oh Yan Ming and Stanley Yew as new Board members for the term 2021/2022.

Additionally, to allow for a rotation of roles within our Senior Management Team (SMT), Bobby Chaw and Sun Ho have been voted in as President and Vice President of the Board respectively, while Aries Zulkarnain remains a member of the Board. We would like to appreciate Pastor Aries for his years of faithful service as the outgoing President of the Board.

3. New Initiatives

  • Prayer Space
This online altar call experience was started in July 2020, and we praise God for all the healing and breakthrough testimonies that have come out of Prayer Space. Truly “eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Cor. 2:9).
  • Counselling Ministry
The purpose of this ministry is to offer professional, competent and ethical counselling services to our members. Together with a team of industry professionals who are also members of our church, we seek to create a safe space filled with the love of Jesus for our members to share their pain and struggles.

4. Community Outreach

  • Care Fund
In 2020, CHC, together with its community services arm CHCSA, set up the CHC Care Fund to provide financial assistance to members who face financial difficulties as a result of COVID-19. We are committed to “find a hurt and heal it, find a need and meet it”. To date, a total of 165 unique families have been blessed through this fund.
  • Eldercare Centre
When the pandemic first broke out, CHCSA programmes were disrupted due to safe distancing regulations. However, the team continued to do what it could to ensure that the seniors were not isolated and the families under their care were supported. By God’s grace, CHCSA started its second eldercare centre at Tampines Greenweave in Nov 2020. With the easing of safe-distancing measures in the last quarter of 2020, CHCSA also organised 55 volunteering opportunities, allowing 477 of our members to serve. We pray that God will continue to open new doors for City Harvest Church to be a blessing to our community through CHCSA!

Church, we thank you for your love and commitment to God and to this house. As we give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord, know that our labour in the Lord is not in vain. Let us continue to pray for our SMT and Board, believing that God will bless them with the wisdom and discernment necessary to navigate the Church in the days ahead, in complete accordance to His perfect will for this house. Soli Deo Gloria!

In Christ,

The Management Board
