Pastor Kevin Loo started serving God in 1992 at the age of 17, right after completing high school. At that time, he was serving in an Anglican church called St. Patrick's Church in Tawau, Sabah. He worked among the youth for a year before leaving for Kuala Lumpur to pursue his tertiary education. Not long after that in 1994, together with a few friends and the support of St. Patrick's Church, they started a church in Petaling Jaya (PJ), called Student Touch Center. A year later in 1995, Pastor Kevin left for the United Kingdom to work with St. Matthew's and St. Luke's Anglican Church in Walsall, Birmingham.
In 1997, Pastor Kevin enrolled in City Harvest Bible Training Center (CHBTC) Singapore, and it marked a turning point in his life. Over the next few months, Pastor Kevin witnessed the work of God being demonstrated through the local church and God began to plant a seed of faith in his heart. His passion to reach the lost in the harvest fields increased within him and changed his outlook toward ministry. After graduation, he returned to his church with renewed vigor and continued to serve God with all his heart.
Things changed in September 2000 when God gave Pastor Kevin a vision to pioneer a new work in Selangor by raising up a group of people who would be passionate for God and fervent in taking the message of the gospel all over their country. With this word, Pastor Kevin, together with the help of Rev. Kong Hee from City Harvest Church (CHC) Singapore, started CHC Kuala Lumpur on 7 July 2001.
Even with a core group of just 20 people, the first service alone drew in more than 60 people and that figure has grown tremendously in just a few years. Through active discipleship, the church continues to grow as members are keenly involved in cell groups, Bible studies and various ministries within the church.
To further extend their ministry outside the walls of their church, CHC Kuala Lumpur also has a community outreach program that provides practical help and counseling to children, youth, families and business people. At the same time, the church is also involved in missions with teams regularly sent to minister in various countries in Asia.
Having no permanent building of their own, the young congregation started their services by moving from place to place each week. They moved from their pastor's living room to a small club house, then to a discotheque and a bar. For a season, they met in one of the auditoriums at Sunway College. Finally in 2004, CHC Kuala Lumpur shifted into their new worship premises that has a seating capacity of 450 people.
To date, the thriving church has more than 1,000 people in its weekly services.
